Toddler-Friendly Pumpkin Donuts: A Nutritious Fall Treat
There are so many comforts that come with fall and the chilly seasons. Colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, the smell of cinnamon, and warm baked goods. I love indulging in fall and winter treats because it feels like it just comes with the culture of the season and holidays within the season.
Pumpkin and apple cider donuts are near and dear to me. I love visiting pumpkin patches, and leaving with a freshly baked dozen of donuts. Or, in the recent years, eating the donuts for dinner while we’re there (my mom and I took the kids and thought the grill would be open, but it was closed… leaving us with no dinner options besides donuts. It was fun, and now its a tradition)! The photo on the right shows us visiting a pumpkin patch that we go to every year.
But… We donut want to eat donuts every single day, right!? Unless of course, they’re healthy donuts. Healthy enough that you can eat them for breakfast, or a snack. My kids absolutely love these, especially because they’re covered in a delicious bright orange frosting (made from Greek yogurt).

Healthy Pumpkin Donuts
Ingredients
Donuts
- 1 1/2 cup rolled or old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup applesauce unsweetened, for a healthier donut
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt full fat
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
Frosting
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt full fat
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- *optional but encouraged: sprinkles
Instructions
Donuts
- Preheat oven to 350 F or 177 C.
- Add DONUT ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Grease a donut pan with butter or cooking oil, and pour the batter into the pan. Fill each about 3/4 full.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting
- Mix all ingredients together, and use a spoon or spatula to frost to cooled donuts. The frosting will be runnier than a traditional frosting, but will thicken as it sits on top of the donut.
- Sprinkles recommended!
Notes
- Our favorite sprinkles are dye free sprinkles by Supernatural, available on Amazon.
- Store these in the refrigerator for up to one week.
